Who Should Book This
- Infants and children in the recommended immunisation schedule
- Children who missed previous OPV doses
- Children travelling to polio-risk areas
Who Should Avoid
- Children with known hypersensitivity to OPV components
- Immunocompromised children or those living with immunocompromised individuals
- Children with active diarrhoea or vomiting (dose may not be effective)
- Consult paediatrician before giving to children on immunosuppressive therapy
Precautions & Preparation
- Ensure the child has no active vomiting or diarrhoea on the day of vaccination
- Keep the child's immunisation record or health card ready
- Do not feed the child for 30 minutes after administration
- Inform the nurse of any prior allergic reactions to vaccines
- Keep the child hydrated and comfortable before the visit
